ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½¹ÙÍø students, faculty, staff and alumni are cordially invited to participate in our daylong celebration of University Day on Friday, April 17, a tribute to the day ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½¹ÙÍø was granted university status in 1994. A variety of fun and exciting events throughout the day will honor the past, recognize the present and celebrate the future.
The celebration will begin at 1:30 p.m. in Sweigart Auditorium where Dean Emeritus Dr. Walter Brower ’48 will hold a book signing for his second volume of ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½¹ÙÍø’s history, Keeping the Promise. Dr. Brower will share insightful passages regarding the growth and success of ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½¹ÙÍø from 1995 to 2012.
At 3 p.m. come witness the sealing and burial of Sesquicentennial Time Capsule between Moore Library and Kaplan Plaza. The capsule – to be opened on ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½¹ÙÍø’s Bicentennial celebration – will contain numerous artifacts pertaining to ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½¹ÙÍø’s history. The university will also present Anna Robbins, ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½¹ÙÍø’s longest term employee, with a Sesquicentennial Medal of Excellence.
The festivities will continue at 3:30 p.m. with a reception to honor retiring president Dr. Mordechai Rozanski on the Upper Patio of the BLC. All of the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½¹ÙÍø community is invited to join in wishing President Rozanski well in his retirement, and pay tribute to his outstanding leadership and significant accomplishments during his 12 years at ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½¹ÙÍø. Dr. Rozanski’s presidential portrait will be unveiled during the reception.
From 5 to 7:30 p.m., alumni, faculty, staff and students of age are welcome to a Mixer in the Pub featuring music and camaraderie.
University Day events will continue from 7:30 to 10 p.m. on the Ben Cohen Turf Field where there will be live music, games and food trucks. The evening will conclude with a fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. This family-friendly event is free with the exception of the food trucks. Bring a blanket to sit on the field. Chairs will be allowed on the blacktop only.
