Tara Mason’s dreams of taking her education to an international level and studying abroad will become a reality, in part to a Frederick Douglass Summer Scholars Grant of $1,500. With some additional help from ������ý����’s Center for International Education, Mason will study in Dublin, Ireland, next summer. 

Mason, a sophomore behavioral neuroscience major with a double minor in psychology and Spanish, describes herself as an old soul who has always wanted to visit Ireland. Her program is based in Trinity College. 

“������ý���� always emphasize the importance of experiencing hands-on opportunities,” says Mason, a member of the Baccalaureate Honors Program.

������ý����’s Center for International Education offers a variety of short-term, semester and summer study abroad program options. Kim Algeo, the Center’s associate director, says this grant was “quite noteworthy,” explaining that most scholarships are only in the range of $200 to $500. 

“This program, in particular, will allow me to learn about interesting historical sites and give me the opportunity to travel and learn in a peaceful environment,” Mason says. “I feel that there is so much to gain from traveling there.”
